Random Things From My Desk!

Image
Even when I was a kid and we had our first computer (a crummy Commodore, still very cool for the time), I always liked having stuff around our desks to keep me occupied. Then again, when you're a child with ADHD and the energy of a racoon who had just dug through the Baskin Robbins dumpster, I guess it kinda makes sense to have as much around you to keep you occupied as possible. Now? Well, I suppose now it's just a nice distraction and an easy motivator. If I'm having a hard time pounding out a project, I can just fiddle with a WWF Hasbro figure or read an old Fangoria to get my mind off whatever is stopping me from writing 32,000 words about No Holds Barred.

Alright, alright, and sometimes it's just because things look cooler on my desk than on a shelf. Admittedly, I don't have to dust an Al Bundy Funko on my desk as much as I would an entire fleet of G.I. Joes. So maybe sheer laziness comes into play as well.

So what goods lays on this messy (and very unorganize…

TPIF: Cartoon All Star Watch-A-Long

Image
Well, the moment has come. I've been wanting to cover the mammoth mindscrew called Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue for years. And thanks to my TPIF cohost, TC, I finally can make that happen.

So to join us today, just head over to YouTube to check out this memorable anti-drug special from 1990 and play our episode along with it. It'll be like MST3K...except no robots...and we're not as witty!

This is a pretty wild and memorable cartoon from our childhood and if you've never seen it before, it's quite the trip. Which is ironic considering the message of the cartoon. But I'm sure you're bound to enjoy one way or the other. Most likely for the wrong reasons...

All Hail Serpentor! THIS IS I COMMAND!

Image
This may upset a lot of you, but I wasn't a Cobra Commander fanatic as a kid as much as other GI Joe fans were. He was whiny, incompetent and kind of annoying. I never really bought into the idea that he could lead Cobra and truly defeat the Joes. But then in 1986, I was introduced to the true leader of the famed terrorist organization...I was introduced to...SERPENTOR!

TPIF: The Convention Episode!

Yup, you heard right. The bad boys of Thank Pod It's Funny are back with a brand new episode! Taking a brief detour in the subject matter, we'll be discussing our favorite, least favorite and most legendary convention stories throughout the years. We figured since convention season is upon us, and we all became friends through conventions, it would be a fun chat to have! So sit back, enjoy and hear of our rather geeky exploits through the years!

Review: My Bloody Valentine (Collectors Edition) by Scream Factory!

Image
SYNOPSIS:  "On Valentine's Day, someone always loses their heart. Twenty years ago, this small town lost more than that. When supervisors abandoned their posts to attend the town's annual holiday dance, a tragedy claimed the lives of five miners. The sole survivor, Harry Warden, was institutionalized, but returned for a vengeful massacre on the disaster's first anniversary.
Nineteen years later, the town is gearing up for another Valentine's Day party. Teen sweethearts T.J. and Sarah, along with their friend Axel, are among the excited partygoers. But when a box of candy containing an eerie warning and blood-soaked heart arrive, the townsfolk realize that romance is as good as dead. And so are they..."

THOUGHTS: Well, it's been well over a decade since we've last seen this slasher hit bluray, or any home media release in North America thanks to our friends at LionsGate. A good disc, not a lot of extras but decent enough transfer. It sadly quic…

A Tribute To The Boz!

Image
Ladies and gentlemen...welcome....to The Land of BOZ!

Back in the 1980s and 1990s, athletes and most celebrities in general, were judged by their public personas and no one had a larger persona and chip on their shoulder than Brian Bosworth aka THE BOZ! The young, cocky linebacker broke into the mainstream during his memorable college football career where he became one of the most legendary Oklahoma Sooners. While he helped bring a lot his team, he also brought a lot of controversy. Namely by criticizing the NCAA and even his steroid use. Despite this, he was still a very desired pick by the NFL and Brian was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks where he'd play for 2 seasons until injuries caught up with him. Brian's potential wasn't truly realized in the NFL and he became the butt of many jokes at the time. In many people's minds, The Boz was a complete failure and seen as just another big fish in a little (college football) pond. With his NFL dreams fizzling before his e…

The Slam of The Night: The 1992 Royal Rumble!

Image
January 19 1992. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a cold, dark, snowy Saturday evening. Normally at age 9, I'd be watching whatever my mom is watching on CBS but this was a very important night. I was heading over to my best friend's house to listen to the Royal Rumble and play NES. Listen? Yeah, you heard me! He wasn't ordering it but he was gonna have it playing on his TV and we could listen to the action through the scrambled nonsense. That's usually how we did it back then and believe it or not, didn't change our excitement!

It was time, after months of world title shenanigans, to see who would win the 30 man over the top rope Royal Rumble and became the new WWF Champion!

Feel The Wrath of Zeus!

Image
Back in 1989, WWF entered a brand new arena. No not the Palace of Auburn Hills, I'm talking the movie arena. No doubt Vince McMahon had been waiting for years to make a movie to show the rest of the entertainment industry that he truly belongs in their world and wrestling can be seen as legit entertainment, not just some small arena in Illinois. He was hitting the big time and he was bringing Hulk Hogan with him to produce NO HOLDS BARRED .For those who have never seen this movie, it's all about Hulk Hogan playing the most popular wrestler in the world named "Rip Thomas". Not Hulk Hogan. Even though he's essentially Hulk Hogan. Throughout the movie, Rip battles a lot of people, including one he makes crap his pants. But his biggest and best opponent of the movie? The Human Wrecking Machine...ZEUS!

Monday Merch Madness: Wrestlemania 9 Crew Shirt

Most of you know I'm a thrifting fiend. VHS, old toys, promo cups, pillow cases. You name it! If it's a pretty fun item, I'll be sure to grab it. But what about those items I've missed out on? Well, today is...kinda...one of those stories. The one that ALMOST got away.

Review: Elite Gorilla Monsoon

I don't think there's been an action figure that's sent me and other fans in such a hardcore tizzy like this one right here. Surely a main event in the toy aisles all across the country...

Welcome To SlamFest! WOOOOO!

Image
Last year, I started a new tradition here on the blog where I focus exclusively on wrestling figures and memorabilia. It was a fun idea and I decided to continue it this year! January is usually a dead month in terms of excitement for a lot of people. It's cold, it's depressing, it's kinda boring, but considering the Royal Rumble is the biggest event of the winter season for so many, I figured it would be a good time to sit back and chat about rasslin! So today, I can't think of anyone better to help me kick this off than with the man who is considered the greatest of all time...in fact, you could say it's the only way to start of the WOOOOOOO! year. Heh.

Ok, I'll see myself out...
