Review: Wonder Woman

Official Synopsis: "Gal Gadot stars as the title character in the epic action-adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Joining Gadot in the international cast are Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, Lucy Davis, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Eugene Brave Rock and Saïd Taghmaoui.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny."

I've been waiting for this movie well over 25 years. I've been a Wonder Woman fan my entire life, and while her Justice League teammates got their movies (heck, even Jonah Hex and Constantine got movies first!) the first thing I'd always ask was "WHERE'S MY WONDER WOMAN MOVIE!!!" I mean, I'm a fan of Jonah Hex and Catwoman and all but if they get a movie, surely Diana isn't too far behind? Well, it took a very long time coming anf st times frustrating, but ya know what they say "good things come to those who wait". And in our case, this was true. After years of hearing rumors of directors coming and going,t he rumors of Chyna, Sandra Bullock, Lucy Lawless and even Mariah Carey, we finally got confirmation in 2014: Gal Gadot will be our Wonder Woman. It's happening. We'll finally get our wish and hopefully it will be done right.

When it finally came out, I was elated. I was over the moon. I, much like so many others had waited so long for this and was absolutely not going to consider to be let down. Sure, I went in with an open mind, but I was more excited than I was even for Batman vs Superman. And you guys know how excited and happy I was to see that and how happier I was when I walked out. But a year later, would Patty Jenkins big blockbuster leave me with the same fanboy-ish glee? Would I be let down?

Walking out after the movie, clutching my Wonder Woman promo cup, I almost burst into tears. After all these years of naysaying, dead ends, "she won't be a good blockbuster", and other doubts from higher ups, Wonder Woman fans like myself were saying what we've been saying for years: The Amazon is here to stay. In my opinion, this was a perfect movie in every way. The cast was terrific, the story was great, the action was unbelievable and the light humor interjected was necessary at times. It made for a very pleasant viewing experience and I wish I saw it more times on the big screen.

A lot of people were worried about Gal Gadot taking on the mantle of Wonder Woman. Silly qualms too. She was too skinny, she wasn't muscular enough, she was Israeli, she can't speak English properly. A bunch of stupid, presumptuous arguments that held very little weight and it turned out all that work in her favor. No she wasn't Lynda Carter. She wasn't even Ronda Rousey, who had called her out for her appearance, she wasn't anyone else. She was her own actress who brought her own strengths to the role. She had empathy, love, sympathy, bravery, boldness, and warrior spirit made her the most believable Wonder Woman to date, in my opinion. That's no disrespect to anyone who played her before. Lynda did a phenomenal job and made us all believe in the character, but Gal opened up and embraced the character and all the characteristics and morals she believes in. Any doubt anyone had beforehand was quickly squashed. If you have any of these worries walking in, you'll be turned around very quickly. This franchise is on the shoulders of great women and I'm very excited to see it's future.

I sincerely can't suggest this movie enough. This is the movie I had almost waited a lifetime for and it was well worth it. Buying this bluray is a great investment, as you'll be getting a lot of repeat watching value and the bonus features, including a great documentary on the history of making this project happen, is well worth your time. You can pick it up at the WBShop.com

I can't wait for the next movie and hope it's even bigger and better!
