The Horror Movie BBQ Goosebumps Giveaway!

Thanks to going to the thrift stores and Netflix, the wildly popular Goosebumps book series and tv show has been slowly creeping it's way back into my life (no pun intended). Going back to watching the tv series and reading the books makes me feel a little nostalgic. I can distinctly can remember picking up my first selection of what would be countless others, One Day At Horrorland, in the summer of 1994, for some summer reading. I was blown away by the fun horror and the humor. What also appealed to me was the sense that these books catered to a certain audience but didn't dumb everything down to a point that a reader would feel insulted. In fact, I can also remember reading it and thinking that it was a somewhat of a current Tales From The Crypt. By that point, Goosebumps popularity was in it's infancy but it didn't taken long. Within a year, Goosebumps was everywhere. EVERYWHERE. The show became so popular that spawned a merchandising juggernaut with clothes, toys, a fan club, and eventually the inevitable, a tv series on Fox Kids. To this day, I still have my middle school journal written in a Goosebumps notebook. It seemed Goosebumps was not going away anytime soon and to this day, it remains very popular with kids of all ages.

Author RL Stine took a great concept of writing PG rated horror, marketing towards the school age and tweens who craved creepy stories but weren't ready for some of the craziness and scariness of Stephen King. And it was a great idea too, not to mention a risky one. If done wrong, the books would've been a flop. But they weren't and they made RL Stine a household name.

So today, I offer you an opportunity to win a nice little prize pack of Goosebumps goodies in my first giveaway as a small way to thank you for the growing support of this blog and the Facebook page!

  1. Favorite story was "The Haunted Mask" it was very creepy. Fav episode was "Night of the Living Dummy III" I use to watch it over and over again. I loved it. Fav piece of memorabilia was this electronic toy that looked like a book but had buttons on the front that played sound and the Goosebumps theme. I played the theme for hours, it was awesome.

  3. I remember reading "Welcome to Dead House" all in one sitting, I couldn't wait to find out what happens! Goosebumps was the first series I ever read. Also, the cover art still inspires me today. I love the color scheme and the illustrations. So distinct and perfect for the series!

  4. My favorite story is The Werewolf of Fever Swamp, that book cover has the best colors and is immediately eye catching. My favorite Goosebumps memory was waiting for the world premiere of The Haunted Mask on TV. It was a Friday but I had to be in bed early anyways so I stayed up long enough so that I can record the episode on VHS and watch it in the morning. I am a big fan of the books and shows like the Twilight Zone or Tales from the Crypt.

  5. My favorite book was always A Shocker on Shock street. I loved the twist at the end, like most of his books. My favorite episode was The Haunted Mask. Who hasn't thought about what it would be like to see things differently from someone else's eyes? Even if those eyes are a creepy possessed mask. And one more final thing, when I was 12 my aunt put together a Goosebumps themed birthday party for me. She brought out all of her Halloween decorations, and had a lot of Goosebumps themed goodies and such. It was a Goosebumps pool party! Considering my birthday is in August. Anyways, here's hoping!

  6. My favorite Goosebumps episode was probably the first one I ever saw, "Calling all Creeps" and you just can't beat the intro for the show. My son and daughter now collect the books and love the show as well!

  8. Pretty much every book in the original series was pretty great aside from a few cluncker, but my favorite may just be the least horror-ific of all, The Beast From the East. It's just so damned weird I love it. Favorite episode of the TV show? Easy, The Werewolf of Fever Swamp, even as a kid I could appreciate the beautiful "Southern Gothic" lighting and setting.

  11. I can remember buying the 'night of the living dummy' book when I was a kid. After the purchase my grandparents and I ended up going to some sort of parade or something. I actually just sat and starred at the book's cover. It really freaked me out.. to the point where I was too afraid to read it. I just ended up selling it at the next family garage sale. haha..

  14. I grew up reading R.L. Stine's Goosebumps as well. I can't remember which one I got first but I do remember buying them through a book club for students called "Scholastic" not sure if that was a nation wide thing or just statewide, but that's where i purchased it. My favorite thing about Goosebumps was that they created a series of books titled "Give Yourself Goosebumps: Readers Beware...You Choose Your Scare. I had a different perspective of Peanut Butter after reading #6 Beware of the Purple Peanut Butter. It gave me such chills as a kid and I wouldn't eat PB&J sandwiches for like a month. As I grew older I passed my books down to my younger cousins to ensure they got a proper scaring when the time was right.

I'd love to win this contest. my email address is LBC423@gmail.com
